Pinterest is a sight all about sharing, so I was surprised to see the announcement that Pinterest launched a new feature called secret boards. It allows users to create boards that only they can see. I understand that social media platforms need to keep improving their sites in order to hold their users attention, but if Pinterest is a way to share the things you love with your friends why would you want to hide your boards.
Pinterest’s official announcement of the new feature stated, “Secret boards give you a place for things you’re not quite ready to share yet, like a surprise party, special gift ideas, or even planning for a new baby. We’re testing out the feature by giving everyone 3 secret boards. You’ll find them sat the bottom of your profile. We can’t wait to hear what you think!”
I personally think secret boards on Pinterest are a bazaar idea since the site is meant for sharing and repining the things you like. Hiding your likes goes against the main purpose of the site. I know many people who have wedding boards, not because they are getting married, but because they like looking at wedding ideas. Although I think this feature is all wrong for this specific social media platform, it may be a hit with others.
